What the Chickens bring to People.
Gold Lace cochin was the storyteller
Once a long long time ago, humans would collect eggs for their meals. They were very loud and aggressive about this. Chicken decided that human would benefit from learning to be quiet and calm. Because when they were loud, animals got hurt, and humans got hurt.
One day, a hen wandered into the village. The humans were confused so they stopped what they were doing and watched her. Slowly she built her nest in the middle of the village. Straw by straw, she calmy built, clucking gently the whole time. Her clucking was very calming to the humans. Then she climbed and settled in.
They continued to watch her. Throughout the day, they were tempted to poke her, look under her. See if they could find anything. But anytime they came close, she gently clucked and pecked them away.
Finally, as the sun went down, She made a familiar noise, a loud and explosive clucking, as a signal she knew they would understand. Then, she got up and rewarded their silence with her egg. And thus, they had learned about being quiet with themselves to see what miracle may occur.
So, today, the rooster wakes human at dawn to signal the start of the watch, and the hen rewards human with her eggs at dusk.
